To Hampton Court with Artful Dodgers

 Some chose the fine bridge but I wanted another go at the lock and Weir.  Lots of boats, people and extravagant domestic architecture along the road beside The River.  The sun was strong but I found a shady spot to set up my board and tripod.  But two hours standing on my newish hip took their toll.

Usually at these sessions I do several quick works but having painted the view before I wanted to develop it more.  What started as a pretty reasonable and minimal pencil guide continued with some satisfaction but once again I got too much into it failing to stand back regularly.  Which is strange given my enjoyment of looking, thinking and then ‘going back to’ a work.  Hey ho – guess its too much quick sketch work.

So it started to run away, got tight and bland.  However a worthwhile morning out.

It’s a bit a tonal and bland.….but having an afternoon to spend a bit of time painting and having, as I often do, looked at it for a few days saw how it could be worked on.
