One of our favourite places and plenty to draw and paint. And it is tempting to concentrate on the huge rock formations. The beaches and bays do give great scope for impression rather than forensic accuracy. Whilst I made a conscious effort to work on other subjects the coastline is fantastically sculptural and the colours can be stunning.

With a fellow Urban I fronted June’s Sketch Crawl. Some 40 others - one from Hong Kong another from Bournemouth. Urban sketching goes on in many towns and with their publicity that means there’s plenty of variety available if you want it.
We planned a linear, genuine crawl route and had sketchers draped all over Richmond’s two Greens, side alleys, Georgean splendour, Royal Palace, tow path, arched boat stores and the Riverside development and included an optional boat anchored on the opposite side of the River. Organising means there’s less time to sketch, and time only for quick work. Nonetheless I ‘did’ a few albeit more finishing at home than usual. Here’s 3. |
